Seed Library

The Headquarters Seed Library was created in February 27, 2020, with the goal of educating Spartanburg County on gardening and self-sufficiency. Since the beginning, the library has worked with community partners to provide resources and education throughout the county on gardening, healthy living, homesteading, agriculture, and more. Over the last eight years, the Seed Library has grown in popularity and success, and we now distribute more than 15,000 packets of seeds, 500+ seed starter kits, and hundreds of pamphlets per year, all at no cost. Call 864-596-3505 for more information.

About the Seed Library

What’s in the Seed Library?
  • Seed quantities and varieties vary from location to location. Due to increased popularity, some varieties may be unavailable.
  • The Seed Library purchases and accepts donations of bulk seeds. Staff and volunteers repackage seeds into individually labeled envelopes. Donations from local businesses and organizations may result in seed packets that are commercially packaged.
  • All seed library locations accept donated seeds collected by patrons and community partners. All seed donations must be clean, dry, and clearly labeled. Please include the year the seeds were collected and information about the plant they were harvested from.
  • The Headquarters Seed Library houses over 120 seed varieties throughout the year. This ranges from vegetables like broccoli, kale and peppers, to melons, annual and perennial flowers, and herbs.

Other Materials
  • The Headquarters Seed Library distributes information resources on gardening basics, up to date statewide farm and garden publications, and growing guides.

Nutritional Education
  • SCPL and the South Carolina State Library distribute Nutritional Education resources such as cookbooks and healthy recipes highlighting seasonal produce and local fresh ingredients.
