Artist Statement

My current work is an investigation of abandoned homes and dumpsites. This has led me to look at humanity’s relationship to the natural world through consumerist tendencies. In particular, I am interested in what we choose to leave behind and how we connect our identity to these places. The images I use in my prints are from the local area. These long forgotten places resonate with my connection to the ever changing landscape that is encroaching and the old is being torn away.

Artist Bio

Caren Stansell was born and raised at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in South Carolina. Although familiar with most mediums, she primarily works within printmaking and sculpture; often incorporating the two. Her art making incorporates her life experiences with organic and found materials that resonate with a sense of place and home. Her ambition is to share her art with as many individuals as possible. Her work has been exhibited throughout the southeast; in shows like the Atlanta Print Biennial, publications such as Creative Quarterly magazine issue #44 and has recently exhibited in Confluence: International Print Exchange; a traveling group show in Taiwan.
