The Juror
Devann Donovan, from Murrells Inlet, SC, has curated an artistic career rooted in her personal narrative. Armed with an MFA from Winthrop University, she possesses a unique ability to weave the threads of her life into captivating artworks that transcend mediums and elicit profound emotions.
Devann's practice is a playful exploration, with a constantly changing attraction to new mediums that leaves no medium untested. Her work knows no bounds, as she navigates from paintings and textiles, to sculptures and videos. She has showcased from NC to CA and most recently Spartanburg, Columbia, and a solo show, Forget Me Knots, in Rock Hill, SC.
Currently residing in Rock Hill with her husband and three dogs, Devann is the Art Instructor at York Technical College. She previously held the position of Gallery Manager at the Arts Council of York County and continues to program and teach children's art classes there.
The Schools
Greenville Technical College’s Department of Visual Arts (DVA) is a great place for students to begin or expand upon their studies in fine art, graphic design, photography, and web design. The DVA is well respected in the arts community for education that allows graduates to go directly to work or move on to a four-year college with a strong portfolio and the skills to succeed.

You’re able to solve problems quickly because you think beyond boundaries. You’re more observant than your friends, examining and reflecting on your surroundings closely and carefully. These are skills we value in Lander’s Department of Art, and are also skills highly sought after in today’s workplace.
At Lander, we’ll provide you the space to refine your craft. Our professors are experienced and practicing artists, with artwork regularly featured in exhibits, galleries and publications. They will closely mentor you as you create your own original artwork. You’ll also take courses in a wide variety of media and disciplines, including painting, photography, ceramics and sculpture, as well as have excellent opportunities for travel and study abroad. The skills and knowledge you will develop as an art major will allow you to work in fields such as teaching, marketing, advertising or publishing; you may also pursue a career as a professional artist or seek an advanced degree in visual art.

As an Art Major at NGU, you will spend much of your time designing, drawing, painting, photographing, printing, and sculpting. You will learn about principles of design; basic, intermediate, and advanced color theory; the timeline of art history; technical skills; the importance and execution of fine craftsmanship; syntactical strategies for expressing your ideas; speaking and writing about your work; professionally exhibiting your work; and creating a portfolio, as well as how to apply this knowledge in mastering your own chosen area of emphasis.

Accredited by NASAD, the major national accreditation organization for design and education, USC Upstate offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in Art Education and Art Studio with an emphasis in Graphic Design.
Art Education programs is designed to provide graduates experiences in studio art, art history, educational theories and dispositions that will prepare them to teach effectively which leads to initial certification to teach art in K-12 schools.
Graphic Design students will explore a broad range of content areas—including design theory, history, production, criticism, and aesthetics—resulting in a comprehensive and deep perspective. Courses are designed to discover how graphic design shapes print and web, electronic design, and illustration. The program provides students opportunities to grow skills in creativity, critical thinking, and problem analysis; it also empowers students with insights on the impact of design on global environments. Enable students to respond to global shifts in visual codes proactively and equip them with an ethical mindset that employers value how design can affect the broader society.

Students in the Wofford Studio Art program are taught, mentored, and advised by practicing artists and scholars. They develop their own creative voices through the study of a broad range of contemporary and traditional modes of artistic production and can develop skills in design, drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, photography, digital art, printmaking, and ceramics.
