HOURS: 35 hours per week

Week 1: Monday 12:00 PM- 8:00 PM; Tuesday 8:45 AM- 6:00 PM; Wednesday 8:45 AM-4:45 PM; Thursday 8:45 AM-4:00 PM; Friday 12:30 PM- 6:00 PM; Saturday OFF

Week 2:Monday 12:15 PM- 8:00 PM; Tuesday 8:45 AM-6:00 PM; Wednesday OFF; Thursday 8:45 AM- 6:00 PM; Friday 12:30 PM-6:00 PM; Saturday 8:45 AM-2:00 PM

Week 3:Monday 12:00 PM-8:00 PM; Tuesday 8:45 AM -6:00 PM; Wednesday 8:45 AM-4:45 PM; Thursday 8:45 AM -4:00 PM; Friday 12:30 PM-6:00 PM; Saturday OFF

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with teens. Must complete pre-employment testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plans, promotes and presents creative and innovative weekly programs for teens (ages 12-18 or in grades 7-12)
Prepares deposits and program contracts, requests purchase orders and tracks and submits program statistics
Schedules and actively engages the public during community outreach in the local area at schools or special events
Responsible for maintaining an attractive up-to-date teen area in the library including collections, displays, and signage
Performs circulation duties including check out, check in, and processing of new materials
Actively participates in teen services committee meetings and online discussions
Prepares engaging book reviews and social media posts
Provides superior customer service when assisting patrons of all ages with information requests, reader’s advisory questions, computers, digital devices, and other library equipment
Attends regular training related to teen services and other library work
Works with the Director of Teen Services to evaluate, prioritize, and grow teen services at the Middle Tyger Library
Supports supervisor directives and assumes responsibility of building and staff in supervisor’s absence
Remains aware of safety and security at all times

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with teens
Comfortable and proficient using technology
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills that display a positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, a sense of humor, and the ability to interface with people from all backgrounds and age groups
Desire to work with and advocate for a diverse teen population
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including social media proficiency
Creative, flexible and organized with good time management skills, attention to detail, and strong work ethic
Ability to prioritize tasks, take direction and work independently or in a team environment
Stays informed of pop culture and STEAM activities to provide programs of interest to teens
Experience working with teens with strong knowledge of teen literature
Some supervisory experience and ability to provide guidance and direction to patrons and staff
Driver’s license valid in the State of South Carolina with the ability to drive to other libraries or community outreach
