About Us

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library is a nonprofit group that advocates for public libraries. Some of the ways the Friends help are by raising funds to enhance programs, helping with public book sales, offering speakers in the Dennis L. Bruce Author Series, promoting the Libraries in the community, and staying informed about libraries’ needs.

Monetary Gifts
  • Gifts to the Friends of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries are tax deductible.
  • Donations are also accepted through the Spartanburg County Foundation.
  • For more information, please contact the Libraries’ Administrative Offices at 864-596-3507.
Memorials
  • You may choose to give a monetary gift in memory of a loved one.
  • In order to have a gift plate placed on an item, the monetary donation must be a minimum of $15.
  • You may specify the subject matter and/or reading level (if a book) you would like to have purchased. Suggestions for a particular title are welcome but the Libraries may not be able to meet the request because of selection criteria, out of print issues, need for another copy, etc.
  • The Library necessarily reserves the right to interfile gifts with other collections on the same subject, so that all collections are organized and classified according to library standards for the best public service. Individual volumes may be marked with bookplates identifying the donor.
Books & Materials
  • Donations of usable books, DVDs and other materials are accepted at all Library branch locations. If you are interested in donating to the Headquarters Library we ask that those donations be taken to Pages on Pine located at 2355 South Pine Street. There is a book drop available on the side of the building for your convenience.
  • When the Library accepts gifts of books and materials, it is with the understanding that they become the property of the Library
  • Materials which are useful to Library collections will be retained and other items will be disposed of in whatever manner the Libraries deem best – discarding, selling or donating to other libraries or institutions
Book Donation Guidelines
  • Book donations should be in good condition and should not be torn, wrinkled, water damaged or odorous
  • We prefer hardcovers with their jackets and paperbacks that are not excessively worn
  • We currently do not accept:
    • encyclopedias or National Geographic magazines
    • magazines that are more than three years old
    • textbooks, company manuals or outdated medical books
    • travel books that are more than five years old
    • excessively used children’s books that may have been chewed or colored on
    • homemade VHS, CDs or DVDs
Members:
  • Receive a copy of SCPL Magazine, a quarterly publication that highlights the Libraries’ programs, services and events,
  • Enjoy Friends-only preview sales at Pages on Pine and at scheduled book sales,
  • Help your Libraries by volunteering.
