SPARK Space - Ignite Your Creativity!

Welcome to the Spark Space, Spartanburg County Public Libraries' makerspace! Makerspaces are creative, Do-it-yourself (DIY) spaces where people come together to tinker, create, design, build, and experiment.

The Spark Space offers opportunities for hands-on learning for patrons ages 12 and older by providing access to emerging technology, tools, craft materials and more.


The Spark Space is open to walk-in's for most equipment but, appointments are preferred. If you wish to make an appointment, please contact the Spark Space.

What are you looking for?

Before using the equipment available in the Spark Space you must first visit the Headquarters library to complete our Maker Agreement and attend equipment trainings.

Equipment Training

Equipment trainings offered daily, please call (864)216-7554 to schedule your training.

There is no charge to use the equipment in the Spark Space; however, visitors to the space are responsible for the costs of consumable materials (e.g. Cardstock, 3D printer filament, thread, fabric, vinyl material). Limited supplies of consumables are available for purchase in the Spark Space. We encourage makers to use their own approved materials for their projects.

Module Description Equipment Costs
3D Printing 3D printing is used in industry, academics, healthcare, and at your library. Stop by the Spark Space to create your own 3D print!

Want to design your own 3D print? Visit Tinkercad.com. New to 3D design and want to print an object created by another designer? Visit Thingiverse.com.
3- Makerbot Replicator + 3D printers 3D printing: $1.50 per printing hour.
Analog to Digital Conversion Haven’t seen your wedding video in years? Looking for a way to save the music from your old cassette collection? Visit the Spark Space and let us help you save your music and memories.

Use of the equipment is free. You will need to have a flash drive in order to save your digital transfers. Flash drives are available for purchase.
One- Elegato Video Capture system. Transfer video from a VCR or DVD to your Mac or PC.

One- ION Audio Tape 2 PC Conversion system. This system allows for easy conversion of cassette tapes to digital.

One -Bestduplicator BD-SMG-5T 5 CD/DVD Duplicator. Easily create multiple copies of a CD or DVD using this duplication equipment.

One - DIGITNOW Record Turntable to MP3 Player.

Crafting Calling all crafters! Whether you want to make a birthday card, discover how to create original home décor, or design a button featuring your favorite fandom, crafters are welcome in the Spark Space.

Use of the equipment is free. You will need to bring paper and design supplies, for the Cricut Explore Air 2 and Big Shot Plus machines. Button making supplies are provided for up to two buttons per month and are free of charge. If you have a larger project you may purchase additional buttons.

Digital Creation Opportunities for creating original digital content are right at your fingertips. Edit photos using Photoshop, or create and record music or a family history using Adobe Audition. Interested in starting your own podcast? Check out a professional microphone with pop filter, studio quality headphones, or a sound proofing screen.

Use of the equipment is free. You will need to have a flash drive in order to save your work. Flash drives are available for purchase in the Spark Space.
Blue Snowball Microphones with detachable pop filters make it easy to create clear and professional recordings.

The Adobe Creative Suite is a one-stop shop for the artist, designer, or beginner who wants to create polished , original content.

Sewing & Embroidery Textiles are a big part of our community. Tap into your inner fashionista by joining us at the Spark Space where you can take a sewing class or work on an independent project.

Use of the sewing machines is free. Thread in limited colors is available for classes and small projects. Bobbins are available for purchase. We invite you to bring any materials or additional supplies that you may need to complete your project.

* In order to ensure that patrons have enough time to complete embroidery projects before library closing we ask that the last embroidery project of the evening be started by 7PM.
Four- Brother SB700T Sewing Machines and a Brother Simplicity 7900E Embroidery Machine are available for use in the Spark.

The SB700T Sewing Machine makes sewing simple with 70 Built-in Sewing Stiches, an easy-to-use threading system and a wide table for larger projects.

The Simplicity 7900E Embroidery Machine features both built-in embroidery stiches and a complete embroidery software package that provides access to a wide variety of fonts and images.
Bobbins: 10¢ each
Embroidery Fees: $5.00 – includes costs of embroidery thread for 90 minute session.

Looking for a way to try out a new hobby? Visit the Spark Space and checkout a Make-Away Kit. Kits include items like a Spirograph, cake pans, rainbow looms, jewelry making tools, woodworking tools, crochet needles and more!
